Iceland 2018 - Kit List
The key to enjoying a trip to Iceland is to ensure you remain warm and dry. It is essential to bring a couple of changes of clothing in case you get wet.
Clothing
- Walking boots – these should be sturdy, over ankle and have a strong grip to cope with the conditions, which could be muddy, wet, icy, steep, uneven or loose stone. Unsuitable boots will mean students are unable to participate in the ice climbing / glacier walk, as crampons must be attached to boots.
- Warm socks – at least 3 pairs
- Waterproof outerwear – a good wind/rainproof jacket (ski jacket is fine) with a hood and waterproof trousers are essential.
- Warm hat, gloves and scarf
- Layered clothing – thermals, long sleeved t-shirts, jumper, fleece.
- Trousers – warm outdoor or walking trousers (leggings if preferred). Keep jeans for indoors where it is dry.
- Indoors – normal clothes and trainers.
- Sleepwear – pyjamas are adequate.
General items
- Rucksack – no satchels or shoulder bags.
- Personal wash kit
- Towel
- Umbrella (if desired)
- Camera and batteries/charger
- Plug adapters (European)
- Swimming suit and towel (to be in hand luggage)
- Glasses or contact lenses
- Any medication required
- Money (in Icelandic Krona)
NB: For reasons of safety, the use of electronic equipment is not permitted when out in the field. In general we prefer students not to bring expensive electrical items as we cannot guarantee their safety and these are not covered by our insurance.
