The purpose of 2 Factor Authentication (2FA) is to significantly improve the level of security when logging in to your Office 365 account.
Your Office 365 account may be used to access your emails, OneDrive, Teams, iSAMS or Firefly.
2FA will not be required to access Office 365 when using a device connected to the School network. It will only be required when away from the School network at home for example.
You will need to install an application on your mobile device to complete the 2FA process:
Configuring 2FA on your account
You will be asked to complete the 2FA set up the first time you sign into your Office 365 account even if you are connected to the School network:
https://login.microsoftonline.com/
You must complete the setup process on a different device to the one on which you have the Authenticator app installed.
A screen will appear notifying you that 'More Information required'. Clicking the 'Next' button will take you to the screen below where you are to click 'Next' again so long as you have the Authenticator app installed:
Select 'Next' again to proceed:
Open your Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. Select 'Add account' or the '+' sign and then select the work or School account option. Allow the app to access your phones camera to scan the QR that appears on the screen of the computer. Click 'Next' on the screen below once the account is listed within the Microsoft Authenticator app:
A notification will now be sent to your Microsoft Authenticator app for you to approve. This is to confirm that everything is working correctly. Such notifications are what you will need to approve going forwards when signing into your Office 365 account. Once approved your will see a 'notification approved' green check as below. Click 'Next' to proceed:
Success! Your 2FA has been set up. When you next sign into Office 365 outside of the Schools network you will be sent a notification to approve on your mobile device through the Microsoft Authenticator app just as you did during the set up process earlier.
