New Device - Re-authenticating Authenticator

When you get a new phone, you will need to re-authenticate the Microsoft Authenticator app. This involves several steps, and you will need your old original device and school laptop to complete it.

These steps require a Personal Microsoft Account. If you do not have one then please contact Mike Thompson who can reset your existing 2FA settings to set up your new Phone's Authenticator App.

Part 1

Backing up your Authenticator details [old phone].

Open Authentictor on your old device, tap the three dots on the top right of the screen and open the settings.

Select Cloud Back-Up. Authenticator asks you to provide a personal Microsoft account where to store the information. It will not allow you to store the information in Work or School account.

Part 2

Copying to the new Device [new phone].

On your new device, open the Microsoft Authenticator app, and select Begin recovery from the bottom of the screen.

Part 3

Validating [laptop AND new phone].

On a device that is logged on (old phone/laptop) to your school account, go to Your School Security Settings

Click the "Security Info"/"Update Info" link. Then "Add Method". Select the 'Authenticator app' from the drop down menu, click next twice (if you've followed Step 1&2 above you've already done those steps). Scan the QR code with your new device.

All being well, your Microsoft account and your new device will link.
